In 2000, on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the parish, Maxo Vanka's daughter Peggy offered the following:
These photos and the other illustrations are memorabilia from our famlly files. I hope they wlll help you to enjoy knowing more about my father at the time he painted the murals. I most love the plcture of him with "Prepelica" the little sparrow that he nursed back to health after he found it with a broken wing. It became a constant companion as he painted the murals. It tells something about his special intuitive touch which he called "the gift of sympathy". I am so much my father's kid! (and mother's too!) With much love to all of you, Peg
